Josh Smitley plays lead alto with the Clairemont High School Jazz Band, and says has learned much from his teacher Bob Campbell.  Josh is a quiet unassuming young man but when he plays with the Jazz Ensemble his personality transforms into this little monster of the Alto Sax.  He plays with strength and precision that is absolute for a good section in any big band.  Josh has been in the Jazz Ensemble since its first rehearsal and has grown musically with the group.  He has now become an extremely talented artist and remarkable contributor to the sound of our sax section and the Jazz Ensemble as a whole.  The young man is going places!

Josh says “Honor Band was an amazing experience that I will definitely go back to next year.  I have also enjoyed playing sax with other instruments for my church at Christmas and Easter.”  He would like to attend either Santa Cruz or CSU Fullerton after graduation.  When asked what he likes about big band Jazz Josh replies: “everything!”

Josh’s likes are: Music (listening and playing it) and cars.  He is a die hard Chevy fan.  He doesn’t “like people who think they are all that when they’re not’!  His advice to another young musician is: “be patient and diligent and you will see yourself get better and better”.
