Name: Nikita Ahmad Favorite Music, groups, composers, artists: Yannis Kiortsiglov, Dave Weckl Band, Dave Holland Quartet, Andre Blumenstein “Nikita is the most amazing young drummer I have ever played with” was heard from several professional musicians when he recently played with the Ron Jermain Big Band. His tempo, interpretation, style and finesse are impeccable. One of the busiest young musicians in San Diego he is constantly in demand for big band, combos and even symphony orchestras as a percussionist and timpanist. His contribution to the rhythm section of the Jazz Ensemble helps set the band aside and makes them one of the hottest big bands in San Diego County. It is said about his playing: “Nikita drives, everyone else rides” His advice to young musicians: “Teach your competition everything they know, but not everything you know” (James Brown). Nikita likes explaining things, symmetry, the ladies and asymmetry. He dislikes “the man ladies and being confused”
