Steve likes big band jazz because it’s fun and “I’m important” to the sound of the band.  He describes himself saying “I have red hair, I’m outspoken, I’m a good human being, I work hard, I hate assholes”.  He credits Mr. Kent and Bob Campbell as being strong influences in his musical growth.  “They made an award up for me at my high school, it was cool.  My most memorable performance was when I played with my ska band in front of over 1,000 people”.

Steve’s advice to another young musician just starting out is “Don’t be an #$%, no ones likes an #$%, if you are amazing but have a bad attitude you will go no where in life…..so yeah don’t be a #$%!”

Flamboyant in character with a mop of incredible red hair, Stevie was one of the original members of The Matt Smith Jazz Ensemble.  He keeps the band laughing with his antics at rehearsals but yet knows how to focus on the music at hand when necessary.  He is well liked and admired by his fellow musicians alike.  Check out his other band “The Skank Agents” at www.myspace.com/theskankagents.
